One beautiful practice that Luangta regularly devotes himself to is visiting and paying respects to his cherished teachers.
In one delightful cave monastery on a mountain,
The boundless joy and contentment of Luang Pu, the venerable abbot, radiated from his kindly smile. When he saw Luangta come to pay respects...
He fondly engaged him with conversation filled with the exquisite flavour of the Dhamma.
At the conclusion, Luang Pu affectionately held out his hand for Luangta to hold, while saying:
“Luangta. See here...
I have completely let go!
I have let go of everything.
There is nothing of which I have not let go.”
Luangta respectfully held Luang Pu’s hand. Then, in a humble and restrained tone of voice, he said...
“I ask permission to speak, Luangpu.
Not yet ... Luang Pu.
Luang Pu has not yet let go of everything.
Luang Pu has still not let go of the ‘one who lets go’.”
After these words...
Luang Pu was speechless for a long moment...
He looked upwards at a distant point in the sky, as if everything without exception was utterly ‘let go of’.
“I had let go of everything,
Until one day, someone came and said:
I have still not let go of the ‘one who lets go’.”
“Dust had landed in my eyes... I hadn’t yet removed it.”
Luang Pu reflected in this way into the breeze.
The world was... still, peaceful, calm.
No more words issued from his mind.
Even the ‘one who lets go’ had vanished.
What could remain to be said?
